Unique Feature of the IBC Tote Mixer

Mar 23

The most common use of tote mixers is to quickly mix and agitate slurry and high viscosity liquids in stainless steel and plastic Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs). IBC totes are typically 275-gallon, square tanks that can be stored on an integral pallet base for easy transport and moved around the facility with a forklift.

Depending on the product, some IBCs will require mixing to maintain consistency in the tank and to re-suspend any settled solids that have fallen to the bottom of the tote. A tote mixer is ideal for this application because it can mix right in the IBC tote, saving time and effort compared with pouring or stirring by hand.

For a more thorough and accurate IBC tote mix in Digital Drive Modes, an air powered mixer can be used to agitate the liquids right in the tank. Unlike mechanical tote mixers, these air-powered mixers do not introduce heat or shear to the products. For example, the Pulsair Systems 10-55 Tote-Stick tote mixer runs on compressed air or nitrogen or carbon dioxide gas and uses a large bubble mixing process to quickly and effectively mix slurry and high viscosity products. Since there is no spinning blade, the tote mixer can be inserted into a plastic or stainless IBC tote down to the bottom and in corners and sides where a heavy mechanical mixer cannot reach.

A collapsible mixing impeller fits easily through the tote's 6" screw top opening for easy access. IBC tote agitators can also be equipped with a hinged lid that allows for easier cleaning and access to the motor. IBC tote mixers come in a wide range of power options including electric, gas, and hydraulic.

The tote mixers can be attached to the IBC totes through a bridge mount, a smaller bung adaptor or an in-line mount. The DM-10 model even includes convenient forklift slots to allow a forklift to pass through to make lifting and moving the tote mixer around the facility easier.

A unique feature of the IBC tote mixer from EvenMix is its low-weight design. Most tote mixers are built with heavy stainless steel components and can weigh up to 100 pounds or more. This makes moving a tote mixer a task for two or more people or requiring a forklift to move them around the facility. The IBC tote mixer from EvenMix features aerospace engineering for its superior mixing technology and weighs only two pounds - a 50% reduction in weight compared to other complete systems.

Keeping the livestock hydrated is essential to their health and productivity. IBC totes are well suited for the task because they can be filled with clean water and transported to the animals where it is needed. Similarly, IBC totes can be loaded with chemical treatments and dispensed as required to treat the field.

The tote mixers can be fitted with a drain valve so the totes can be easily cleaned, and the mixing agitator can be separated from the motor, leaving it in the tote for storage or reuse without the risk of cross-contamination. This can be particularly important for seed treatment, where avoiding contamination is crucial to the success of the next harvest.
